Numbers 0 and 1 which are also regarded as binary digits form the basis of communication between machines in the globe. Just for the sake of introduction-if there is a phenomenon associated in nature and we assign a binary index to it, then index 0 will represent that it is not happening and 1 it is happening. What I have realised so far that as college students we tend to follow this concept in our lives too. For example, if a computer science student decides to learn a particular language then the student can be seen exhausting his/her complete energy on that thing. We are being taught from childhood that to achieve your aim you must give your 100% to it, no doubt it’s correct but in a particular phase of life there can be many goals to achieve.
Like in the case of undergrad schools the focus should not merely be on academics one should also develop co-curricular activities and most importantly good health. As I have seen most of the students tend to take up any one of these, either they index academics with 1 and rest with 0 or rest with 1 and academics with 0. A student just focussing on academics will tend to compromise on sports, or the activities which tend to relax his mind. One of the real life examples I see is that when the academic pressure is not high during the first few months of a semester students doesn’t really like to open books and just focus on work which ‘they found’ more productive and as the exams are impending they indulge themselves in nothing but reading books, hence the lives shift states from not working(0) to working(1).
And I found this as one of the major reasons for the disappointments that one has to face at the time of results of the particular tasks we took. What we thought of as an add-on should have been considered as a backbone. It’s the backbone of good health on which the probability of good academics stands. Most importantly it’s the backbone of complete development on which our chances to live a satisfied life stands. Again if there is a certain deadline in a week’s time we tend to defer all the other personal commitments which just piles up our pending work.
Imagining and committing yourself to a balanced life should be the prime concern. It’s important to pursue your dreams with full dedication but if one also tries to get familiar with other concepts then it is quite a possibility that it may be useful in the future.
A particular day in our life should not consist of either 00000000 or 11111111 it should be like 0100101110…. This habit doesn’t induce lethargy but leverages a person from others which eventually raises the self-esteem that yes, I’m living an intellectually productive life, which is the prime aim of a human being.
